Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to furnish? Aside from a swimsuit and towel, GUDC recommends that each student provides a personally selected set of mask/fin/snorkel. You will need to provide these for part I ( pool skills ) and part II ( open water dives ). If you do not already own a set you will be provided with valuable student discount coupons. How long do I have after completing the Class / Pool - Part I to finish my Open Water Dives Part II ? Upon completion of your part I, you have only six months to start your open water dives. If you delay any longer you will need to do a refresher, or may need to completely retake the part I.
What do I need to provide for part II Open Water Dives? Whether you complete your dives locally or travel to a referral location, you will need to provide the following items: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Boots, Log Book, Certification Process Form, proof of training part I. Other items vary by location and may include: Dive Computer, Exposure Suit, SCUBA Equipment, etc.
Students who complete both part I ( class / pool ) and part II ( open water dives ) at Going Under Dive Center will need: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Boots. Log Book and Certification Process Form are included in the Open Water course fee. If a student has not purchased a complete dive system, SCUBA equipment is included in the course fee.
Can I request additional one on one skill time once my class has started? Yes - absolutely, if you feel you need some private time with an instructor in the pool you can sign up for hourly pool time. Remember if this is your dream, we want to do what we can to make it come true. You can also upgrade to private lessons at any time.
Is there an age restriction? You must be at least 15 years old to receive an Open Water Diver certification; there is no maximum age. Those 10 to 14 may take the course and receive a Junior Open Water Diver certification. Once certified, 10 and 11 year olds must dive with a parent or guardian. Junior Open Water divers age 12 and up must dive with a certified adult until their 15th birthday. * For PADI eLearning there is an minimum age 13 for On-line course study, under age 13 please choose traditional home study materials. We do ask for the comfort and best learning environment that Jr. divers ages 10 -12 have the instructors approval to join a group class.
Do I have to be a strong swimmer? No, you need only to be comfortable in the water and capable of swimming continuously for two hundred yards, and treading water/floating for 10 min. If you do not feel comfortable swimming continuously, you may elect to use a mask, fins and snorkel to show comfort in the water.
What is the Open Water Training fee? Open Water Certification dives conducted by Going Under Dive Center, the fee is $175. The fee includes use of scuba equipment, instruction, certification fees, and logbook. Fees for Open Water Certification Dives are due when registering and are non refundable
Are referrals available for Open Water Training? If you are traveling during months that Going Under Dive Center does not offer open water training dives you can complete your dives at warm water locations worldwide using the Global Referral. Prices vary by location.

GUARANTEE: Your training will include as much pool time as necessary for you to be comfortable in the water. Be prepared to plan extra pool or class sessions if necessary to complete your training. If you enjoy water, have at least an average swimming ability, a positive attitude, complete your home study, and attend all class sessions, we will do whatever we can to ensure that you are comfortable and confident in the water.
CANCELLATION POLICY: To keep class sizes small we require all class fees due when you register, payment guarantees your space. Your class fees are non-refundable within 14 days of the class starting date and is non transferable within 7 days of the class start time. Only one transfer allowed $90 fee. All course fees are forfeited if you do not attend.
